Carnival is a great popular festival that attracts millions of visitors from all over the world.
Streets and squares throng with spectators watching performances, music and art.
The calli and the bridges get crowded and in every corner as you stroll you can admire the beautiful masks and wonderful, sumptuous costumes.
The festival begins with the water parade: decorated boats and rowers in colourful costumes parade from the Punta della Dogana along the Grand Canal towards Rialto, led by the legendary 'Pantegana'.
